Begonia Semperflorens are one of the few summer bedding plants that grow well in shade.  This makes them ideal for adding colour to shady areas of the garden.  Once your Begonia plants are established, use 5 to fill a 12" or 30cm pot, or plant them in garden borders 6" or 15cm apart.

These Begonia mini-plugs will need pricking out into small 5cm pots or seed trays with inserts.  Grow the plugs on in a heated greenhouse or on a sunny windowsill.  They need to be kept at a minimum temperaturte of 7 degrees celsius.  When the plugs are in the early growing stages, we recommend keeping them quite dry to encourage root growth.  This is particularly important with Begonias as they tolerate dry conditions and do not like to be overwatered!  However it is very important not to let them dry out completely.  The compost should be kept moist, not waterlogged, but also not dry and dusty.  Once the risk of frost has passed your plants can be planted out in the garden.

Once the risk of frost has passed your plants can be planted out in the garden.  Water them regularly to prevent them from drying out.  Watering is best done in the morning or evenings instead of when the sun is at its strongest to prevent the leaves from being scorched.  Feed weekly whilst in flower with a good quality multi-purpose feed.
